| I am a 25 year old woman who has lived with BWS all my life.
I had the tongue surgery at 18 months, then speech therapy until I was about
8. I had braces at 15, and major oral surgery on my jaw at 17.
I now get constant compliments on my speaking voice... In fact, I make my
living on the phone. I do have cysts, I am larger on one side of my body,
and I have some of the abdominal abnormalities that come with the condition.
None of my symptoms are dramatic. I no longer wear the lift that evened
out the length of my legs. The only effect of that symptom is that
it is difficult to find shoes that fit correctly... My right foot is about
half a size smaller than my left.
I had a normal, easy pregnancy with my son, who did not inherit the condition. In short, although childhood was difficult, I have grown into a
happy adult with a normal life. I am tall, 6'2, and I love it. I have
big eyes, a big smile and long legs. My unafflicted sister is jealous! June 2001 |
